It’s a day like any other day. A few small things begin to happen and before you know it your whole day it starts falling apart. And you find yourself right back into that place you never want to be. That feeling of frustration that lingers on and on. As you try to muster up the hope that it’s not always going to be like this. And you try to remind yourself that life, even with all its many problems, is still good. So what can you do when everything seems to be pushing your buttons? What is the one thing you can do to change the circumstances happening all around, when everything is out of control? The answer is… Nothing.
Please understand that I’m not advocating for pacifism, as nothing of that sort has ever come natural to me. I’ve always been much more confrontational than that. However, there are some realizations the Lord has shown me that I’d like to share with you today.
Your circumstances are in direct correlation to what’s going on on the inside of you. So the more you try to force things to get better the more stressed out you’re going to get. The the hardest thing to do is to do nothing at all, and simply rest. The more you fight against it, the more you’re allowing it to influence who you are choosing to be.
There’s a scripture that illustrates this point in a subtle way:
“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:39)
This verse isn’t telling you to be ok with what’s going on. God hates evil. But He knows that the more we allow ourselves to jump in to that mess the more tangled up we can get. The best way to allow evil to be removed is to use it’s own energy against itself:
“The LORD is known by the judgment which he executes: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.” (Psalm 9:16)
The power of letting go
Evil is not self-sustainable. It needs a prey to feed on. It seeks to lure you into the illusion that it deserves your attention. When you refuse to acknowledge it, it dies. It destroys itself.
We need to let go. Sometimes even when we don’t know what’s right or what’s wrong. Let go of everything you think you know. Allow yourself to rest, even in the middle of circumstances that are driving you crazy. Don’t be fooled by the trickery and illusions of the enemy. You are free, whether you feel it or not.
“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8: 5-6)
So the next time you’re having a bad day, remember that it might be something trying to drag you down and get you to react. It may make you mad, but if you can rest and allow the peace of Christ to shine inside, the craziness happening all around outside will soon fade away.
