It’s so easy for us to get caught up in a pattern of doing things that we can easily start developing rituals in our own lives even if they don’t make any sense. This makes it difficult to break away from all the pressure in our lives until we feel guilty and weird for just taking time to reflect on the big picture. So I did a little soul searching and feel really good about it. For the past month and a half I have been spending a little time pulling back to think, pray, and meditate on what I really need to be focused on. It was difficult because of those same reasons but after coming out of it I want to encourage you to do this also, especially if you feel like you are being pulled in too many directions. Don’t listen to the fear try to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do. Even though it feels like your whole world is going to fall apart or that you might be letting people down around you, everything will be ok. Taking a little time to step away from it all and get a better picture of what you really want to focus on is vital. Doing this has been a huge blessing for me and the same will be for you too when you take a little time to re-kindle that passion you have hiding inside.

My creative vision

I say all that because it feels good to gain clarity on what I feel led to do. My goal is to help you renew your mind by using this artwork to help shift your mindset.  To encourage you to go from fear into faith, and to see the truth that exists above facts. To remind you of the eternal point of view rather than the limited and the linear mindset that ensnares us in a multitude of frustrations. This whole creative vision is completely revolved around that single moment when this paradigm shift hits, and I hope that you feel it over and over again!

I really need to give credit to the author who helped me get me over a big hurdle I had been on for a few years now.  Mindset by Carol Dweck, helped me find a way to communicate what I was having difficulty explaining, and what’s been in my heart for such a long long time. Although this is a secular book, it was helpful. Thank you Carol.

Turn off autopilot

It’s so easy to get caught up into a limited and linear mindset that it can actually cause harm. Things begin to develop right under our noses that get overlooked because we get too caught up in whatever problem or frustration that’s being thrown our way. So if you’re going from one problem to another, it can be very important to find a way to just slow down and reset. If we only focus on what’s going on right in front of us, and use that to decide how we see the future, it is going to drag us down into a pessimistic outlook and start robbing us of all our energy.

Engaging hope

How can we live with ourselves if we’re not walking in hope or having something exciting to reach for every day? Ironically, it feels just as uncomfortable to reach for something exciting when you try to get beyond what you have right now. Sometimes you may feel so uneasy about it that you might be tempted to pull back completely and moving forward all together. This is why it’s so important to keep your mind focused on what’s eternal by engaging our creative mind. God gave us the gift of art to help remind us of what’s really important, the kind of art that I can get lost in, something that reminds us that life is eternal and the troubles we’re dealing with today aren’t as big as they appear to be. I encourage you to enjoy something creative for this specific purpose to help you shift your thinking into a mindset that will help you grow and be stronger, because “As a man thinketh, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)

Take new action

When you get your thoughts on higher things you elevate the way you see yourself and the world around you. You’ll begin to change your identity. Thee way you see yourself has a very profound effect on everything that goes on in your life. Because what you think about, meditate, and imagine all day long effects the way you see yourself, and the common factor in all the different problems in our lives is the fact that we are bringing ourselves to all of them. I encourage you to allow this to minister hope to you, the hope that you don’t have to stay stuck. Maybe it begins with something small, something like picking that creative project back up and taking it more seriously. Use that God given creative gift you have as often as possible, because I know you have one! Do something different. Break the boring and dead rituals you’ve fallen into, even if its something so small that it seems insignificant. I challenge you to let go.

Dylan, I loved reading your thoughts – and many of them hit home. The rut we sometimes find ourselves in is real. I find reading or discussing a bible verse is a great way to get outside of myself. My group of people I interact with is on the small side – but they are all wonderful people, and I love them. Sharing with them makes it easier to reach out and interact with others, and also share my love and joy with them. Thanks for all you do in my life, and those that I love.
