You’re running late. You spilled the coffee, you dropped the groceries, your kids are screaming, the boss is upset, the car won’t start, and the radio song brings a bad memory. Only another frustrating day that seems to go on and on…

Every time I’ve had a day like this it would drive me nuts. I can’t help from wondering…why do all these things happen? I start to psychoanalyze every little bit of it trying to figure out who I can blame? Well, I eventually try to play nice and figure out why all this kind of mess seems to happen at the most unwelcome times.

I may not be able to tell you where they come from, and you may be able to find better advice on what to do. But I have learned a least a few helpful tips that might help get you through it.

My crappy sounding advice

The good news is, I have something that helped me with this. The bad news is, you might hate what I’m about to say.

The best way to handle a day like that is by doing nothing.
Are you saying, “What? That’s the dumbest advice anyone could give! Whatever Dylan.”
Yeah you’re right, it sounds dumb. That’s also why it took me so long to actually try it out. You see, there’s nothing you can essentially do to stop the attacks on a day like that. So one day I gave up and decided to let it all start rolling off my shoulders. That’s when I could feel a tiny bit of peace begin to glow.

Thoughts on circumstances

The circumstances always pop up at the times when we least expect them. And it’s the most annoying thing in the whole world. But as annoying as they are have they ever taken us out? Have the circumstances ever taken us completely down? Have they actually done what we were most afraid of them doing? Hardly ever.

The one thing that I’ve learned about all this is that the whole thing is like a big twisted game. The more you care, the more it seems to happen. The more you let it go and start letting it roll off you, it seems to go away.

I don’t know if it is actually evil spirits behind all this, or if it’s something else more natural. But I’m starting to believe, the circumstances happen to make us stronger. Pushing us a little further even if we’re at the top of our game. Because even though it doesn’t feel comfortable, or sound exciting, realize that stagnation brings decay. If you are stagnant in life you could begin fading away. So do you want that? To get weaker and weaker? The student who stops studying will begin to slide. And the person who stops having troubles will begin to fade. Maybe the reason why we have so many problems is because our path is more important than we realize. I’m beginning to believe if our purpose and destiny wasn’t important we would have an easy ride. That actually does sound kinda boring when you think about it.

Rest brings freedom

What I started to realize is when I practice letting go and walking in rest it freed me from the circumstances. Not that it stopped the bad things from happening, but it could no longer affect me because it became like oil and water. The troubles may come, but they just won’t stick to you. Because when you’re in rest, and nothing can take you out of it, your life will begin to be a little more blissful.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! -Psalm 46:10 NKJV

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. -1 Peter 5:6-7 ASV

Stand in awe, and don’t sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah. -Psalm 46:10 HNV
